Birthday Bulletin Boards

Well, I was asked to do the Birthday Bulletin Boards again, so here is the one I made for September.

I wish I hadn't picked the purple background, but it will work better through the fall and winter... I hope.

Anyway, I used 'Speaking of School' for the letters, and 'Doodlecharms' for the apples.

I didn't distress anything. I think that was a mistake, oh well. I am a distress-a-holic.

I made this a while ago, but never blogged it. What can I say, I was born to slack.

The board is 12" tall and it was a little over 2' wide. I painted it, then stained over the top of it. Then I used my cricut to cut vinyl for the lettering. 'KNEEL' was cut with Base Camp, and the rest was cut with 'Script 101'. I really liked how it turned out and I think my mom did too. I guess I should be happy that she has it out in her family room in her house and not put away in a closet. That's a good thing, right?

I made this little gift box for my niece for her birthday. I bought her some cute earrings, and made the box to be her card, and to hold the earring box.

I made the box with my Cricut. I used the 'Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More' cartridge. I cut it on my Expression set to 'Fit to page'.

The circles were cut with the 'George and Basic Shapes' cartridge. The pink circle was cut at 3.5 inches and the white circle was cut at 3 inches. The heart was cut with 'George' also, at 2.5 inches. I also cut squares to sit on each side of the box with the 'George' cart. They were cut at 4.5". I cut them on both chipboard and paper.
The scalloped square was cut with the 'Accent Essentials' cartridge and was cut at 3.75 inches. It was cut on both paper and thin chipboard to give it dimension. All of the writing was done by making my own rub ons with my computer and transparency sheets.
The paper came from Making Memories. I distressed all the paper with 'Old Paper' distressing ink and sand paper. I also used stickles to make it sparkly, and flowers from Prima. The brads are also all from Making Memories.

Mother's Day Activity

My friend asked me to help her come up with an idea for the girls in our ward at church to do for Mother's Day Activity. I made two of each of these books you see pictured.

Here's what I came up with. I made these books using my Cricut Expression. I used the Cricut Design Studio to weld together the letters from 'Opposites Attract' and the rectangles from 'George and Basic Shapes'. Then I cut them out in chipboard, spray painted them, added the letters cut out in cute paper, and finally bound it with my Bind-It-All.

I gave the girls a bunch of embellishments, ribbon, flowers, brads, etc. And they decorated the books and put pictures of themselves in them, and wrote nice notes for their moms. I didn't get to see the books when they were done but I heard that they were really cute and the girls had a great time decorating them.

Ok, so here are 5 of the books from today. I will post more later if I have the time. I spent the majority of my day at my kids' school, and the highlight for me was watching our great teachers get silly and beat the candy out of a pinata. That was so fun!

As far as I can tell the teachers all liked the books I made for them. I hope they do anyway.

I have a problem....

Well, several actually but that's another blog. Today it's that I seem to be a pro at biting off more than I can chew. It's my gift.

Teacher Appreciation week is coming up and I signed up to be on the committee. So, we are sitting at the meeting, discussing what we are going to do for the teachers, and they start talking about the wonderful things they have done in the past and what ever will we do this year. And I come up with the less than brilliant idea to make each teacher a little book. The students will each get a page to write a nice note to their teacher or draw a picture (for the youngins). Well, they all liked the idea so now I am making 18 of these little books. They are 5.5x5.5". I cut all the pages, the covers, and the chipboard backing with my Cricut Expression. Then I got to use my fabulous new toy, the Bind-It-All to bind them. The paper on this one is from Basic Grey and so is the ribbon.

So wish me luck, and watch for 17 more of these little babies.

This Month's Bulletin Board

So long purple background. You served us well.

I went to Lakeshore Learning center and they had this fun cloudy bulletin board paper so I put that up. The purple was tired, but I had left it up since I didn't like any of the other colors we had in the supply room... and because I am lazy... and it's freaking hard to put up that stuff by yourself. Or at least I am unaware of the secret way to put it up easily.

Anywho.

This months' board was done with my Cricut. I used the 'New Arrival' cartridge to make up the umbrellas. (I removed the bows from the umbrellas for the boys). My friend Dawn came over and wrote out the names for me. She has amazing handwriting, and I can't lie... I am super jealous. The paper is all from My Mind's Eye. I thought this one turned out really cute.

Shocking huh? Yeah, not so much.

I have quite a few things to post, but first a little update as to what has been happening here.

Last month, my Husband's Aunt and Uncle were crossing the street (at a crosswalk) when an oncoming truck did not see them and struck them. Sonja is doing ok, but Jerry is still in a bad way. I wont go into details, but every prayer counts.

Now,

A while back I posted a link to http://rickkeys.com . This morning at 12:48 Rick was called home to our Heavenly Father. What a blessing! His family was blessed to get to spend time with him knowing what would happen. His family is blessed because they have been brought closer together. His family is blessed in knowing that they will see and be with him again, and knowing that Rick is no longer in pain. They are blessed because they loved so much that it hurts to lose. It's a hard time, but Rick is in a better place.

February Bulletin Board

Here is the bulletin board for February. I used George to cut out all the hearts, and then sanded the edges to distress them all. And then hung them from assorted ribbons. The 'Happy Bithday' is from the Printing Press Cartridge. I love my Cricut Expression. I used some ribbon from Costco for the border. Thanks for looking!

Happy Birthday Julie

Sunday night we had a surprise birthday party for my two sweet sister-in-laws. (Both of their birthdays are this month but my In Laws will be in sunny California on their days so we had an early party). Anywho... Here is the card I whipped up for Julie. I used my computer for the Happy Birthday and a Prima Flower + some ribbon I had lying around. The brad is from Making Memories, and I used stickles to give it a little something extra. I used a Sakura Glaze pen to add the dots and did some sanding to distress paper.

I am completely addicted to distressing paper. I may need a 12 step progam.

This Month's Bulletin Board

This months Birthday Bulletin Board isn't as cute as last months, but I never got a picture of last months. BUT, the 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' is still up from last month because I couldn't bare to part with those adorable snow man letters. This was the first time I really used my Cricut Colors. (The markers... if you don't have the markers... get the markers!) I used the 'Speaking of Winter' cartridge to make the snow man letters. I LOVE this cartridge so much! It is so much fun! I used stickles to make these cute letters a little more fun. Then I used the 'Joy of the Season' cartridge to make the mittens and snowballs. I used the Cricut Colors first to draw them, then switched out the marker for the blade to cut them out. I thought they turned out really cute and the kids really like them. I used ribbon for the border on this one. Since I made it without a lot of time on my hands.

Art Experience

At the beginning of the school year the room parent for my son's kindergarten class asked if I would partner with another parent to be the Art Experience Volunteer. (Yeah, I had NO idea what I was getting into, but hindsight is 20/20.)

Anyway, this month we talked about Encaustic Art. (Painting with wax) So I chopped up lots of crayons and brought an iron and the kids had a ball making pictures with wax and watching what happened when we melted the wax. So... to make a long story longer... I had to make a sign to put up with all of the art these darling kindergarteners created. So I quickly whipped up this sign with my Cricut Expression and embellished with with dots and some sanding to make it a little bit prettier. The picture doesn't really show it really well but here it is nonetheless.

I was asked to do the birthday bulletin board at my kids school this year. And right now I wish I had taken pictures of all of the boards I have done. But, sadly, I haven't. For some reason I can't always seem to remember to take my camera with me when I do it. But I will try to take a picture of the board that is up right now.

This is the board from October.

I love the Cricut Expression. I made all the pumpkins with the Doodlecharms cartridge, and used Stamped for the font. (Which I modified just a little bit with good old fashioned scissors.) I did some distressing and used stickles on the leaf for the pumpkins.

The border was also cut using my expression on the 'Fit to Length' setting and the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge and all the patterned paper is from Making Memories. The rest of the paper is from Provo Craft.

Sorry for not posting anything new, I am swamped with life right now. But hopefully things will calm down in the next day or so.

Baby Shower Invitation

I was asked to make these baby shower invitations for someone at church. They told me she was having a boy and that she was decorating the nursery in stars. So this is what I whipped up for her. I thought they turned out cute, and I just hope she liked them.

(Yes, I made these a while ago... just haven't had time to post them because I have been so busy perfecting the use of my lazy bone.)

I used the Cricut 'New Arrival' cartridge and the 'Join Us' was a gel sticker from the Making Memories sale last spring.

I have other news, but it will have to wait. As usual, I seem to have no time left today.

Resolutions and such

This poor blog has been so neglected. I just haven't made time for it. So, as one of my many New Years resolutions I am setting a goal to post at least one project a week. We'll see how that turns out.

I also hit 5000 posts today. WOW! I have no idea how that happened but it's fun that it did!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have a fantastic 2008. May you all be blessed with peace in your life and happiness for you and those who surround you.

So, I have made a few things that hopefully I will get to blog about next week. For some insane reason, I thought that when school started I would miraculously locate extra time. So far, all that extra time is hiding from me (along with one of my kids shoes and whatever other item I can never seem to find when I need it...).

In the mean time, here is something I typically don't do. My sister is married to a great guy, who is the youngest in his family. Last month they received some devastating news, his brother has cancer. Cancer that is basically inoperable, and doesn't respond well to chemo or radiation. He has 8 children, the youngest being 5 years old. Is this thing still on?

Woah. It's been a LONG time. We spent most of our summer away at our cabin near Flaming Gorge. No scrapping, no cricuting, no blogging. Just quality family time at the cabin and out on the boat.

I have now gotten the kids both off to school and I feel as if I may finally be settling into our new schedule. Maybe I will actually find time to go down and play in my scrapbook room! What a concept!

Well, this week has been pure insanity. After being away for 13 days I got home and had quite a bit to catch up on. Wednesday was my birthday, and yesterday at about 2pm the hubby decided it was time to head back up to the cabin. So, here I am. Up at the cabin, and everyone is still asleep but me. So I have a couple of minutes to Blog.

Caryn, I PROMISE I will do my tagging.

My birthday was good. My sweet hubby gave me a new laptop (which I am using right now, yipeee!). I have ALWAYS been a PC girl. My first computer was a PC, and I built it with my dad when I was 18. It was a 486. Life somehow led me to computers. I am an MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) and an MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer). I was a computer consultant and spent my first few married years as a consultant and a trainer. I taught people everything from how to build a computer to how to make your computers in Timbuktu talk to your computers in the North Pole and have it all work seamlessly. I stopped teaching (I LOVED teaching) after the birth of my first child. I still did some consulting but even that has wound down. But the point of this is... it was all PC.

So, for my birthday my hubby gave me a Mac. a Macbook Pro to be exact. Can I just say... I LOVE it. I have been doing quite a bit of digital slide shows, and video editing and the Mac does it so much better than the best PC I have in my home. (And I have 5 computers at home). I am surprised at how easy it was to switch to the Mac, and I am floored at how much I love this computer.

If you are thinking about a new computer. Consider a Mac. It's good stuff.

Anyway...Here is a video of my son kneeboarding at Flaming Gorge. I am so proud of him, since this last trip was the first time he had ever been on a kneeboard.

I'm back.

I can't believe we were gone for 13 days. But it was A LOT of fun. My 7 year old went from never trying a water sport to doing tricks on the kneeboard. My 5 year old started jumping into the lake (Which he has never done before... he's a bit timid... well about stuff like that anyway).

I will try to remember to get some pictures posted or something.

Tomorrow is my 10 year Wedding Anniversary. So this is the card for my sweet hubby. I hope he likes it. I used my Cricut to cut the letters and used the negative space. I placed that on top of cardstock printed from my PC. I also did the little tags with my computer. Everything is distressed with ink and sanding. I stitched a little bit and also wove some ribbon through. The paper is from Heidi Grace. It is a little more feminine that what I really hoped, but I think he loves me enough he wont mind. :D

The Ultimate Tool....

Ok, I have a Cricut. I love my Cricut, and I mean LOVE my Cricut. I received it for Mother's Day in 2006 and have used it tons! Well this year for Mother's Day I got the new Cricut Expression. HOLY FRIJOLES! I LOVE this machine! I didn't think that Provo Craft could do anything beyond connecting the USB port to make me love this little cutter any more, but let me tell you that the Expression is AMAZING. There are so many new features that improve upon the original Cricut, like the ability to center a cut (So I can use it to crop shapes into photos), the ability to cut chipboard (YAY YAY YAY), not to mention the great sizes too! I could go on and on, but I won't. Let me just say that if you are considering this machine, go out and get it! You will love it.

That being said, let me tell you that I am also keeping my little Cricut too. I can take it places and now I can be cutting on two machines at once!

I know, there are tons of people who prefer the computer connected cutters, and I do own one. And, I do use it. But it is much more time consuming and requires ALOT of 'tweaking' to get what I want from it. I love the Cricut because it is so simple and quick to get what I want from it.

Long live the Cricut!

Maze Book-a-Rama!

I was asked to teach a class on Maze Books for a Father's Day activity for my Church. So, I decided I had better learn how to make them. LOL Fortunately for me it's not difficult at all! This is the first Maze Book I made, it's for my Dad. My father came to the US in 1951 and this is the history his father, my grandfather, wrote about it. For the cover, I used my computer, but I scanned in my Grandfather's signature so I could have it under the title. Then I placed it with a pewter bookplate. I really like the look of this.

The inside has a photo I took of both of my Grandparents when I went to England with them in 1987.
Then the rest is the history my Grandfather wrote. I did distress all the white paper I used to print this out on. I really like the way it looks.

The paper on the outside is from Basic Grey, and then cardstock for the pages and the ribbon both are Martha Stewart. (I found a use for that obscenely large paper she his selling.) The book is 5x5".

(I made these a bit ago, but they have been at the church until this last sunday when I brought them home.)

This last one is a standard Maze book made with 12x12 paper. While they are cute, I hadn't made one until now because I wasn't thrilled with the 3x3 finished page size. Maybe I will change my mind when I get it done.

This is the birthday card I made for my Father in Law. My hubby told me that for him, "Simple is better". So I used some patterned paper from DCVW, cut a circle and used some ribbon. The sentiments were all home made rub ons.

Exploding Box-a-thon

This Exploding Box is for my Son's first grade teacher. She is about to become a grandmother for the first time.

I thought it would be fun to make her a box to fill with pictures of her new granddaughter.

The little outfit is from my Cricut and was layered many times to give it some thickness and then inked up a bit with 'Vintage Photo Ink'. I added some stickles to the center of the flower on the little outfit too. It looked much cuter in person.

At 'Mom and Me Scrapbooking' I found this darling little baby rattle charm so I put that on the front of the box tied into the ribbon.

She really liked her box and I hope she has fun filling it with pictures of her granddaughter!

More Exploding Box-a-thon

This one is for my sister-in-law, Julie. The paper is from My Minds Eye (the big pack from Costco) and the ribbon is from the evil Martha Stewart line at Michaels. (I do like some of her ribbon, not so much the other stuff though.)

The button on the top is wood, but I can't remember where I found them. The 'M' was cut with my cricut and layered to make it thick like chipboard. (My pre-expression days, but that's another post to come)

The Flowers are from Prima and the brads are from Making Memories.

I cut the little tag with my sizzix and everything is distressed with 'Vintage Photo Ink'.

Why is May so INSANE?!

Seriously, May has been more crazy than December, and somehow that just doesn't seem right. I don't know what it is about May, but I have decided that May must be short for MAYHEM!

The good news,

We booked a family vacation to take the kids to Disneyworld in honor of our 10th wedding anniversay. Our anniversary is in june, but we are going to take them in December. We are not going to tell the kids. They are just going to come home from school and we are going to get on a plane. It will be the best surprise for them! I can't wait!

I received my Cricut Expression last wednesday. (Things must be crazy for me to not have posted pictures.) I will get pics posted when I get home. I can't wait to spend some quality time with my new toy!

Finally, school is out and I am ready for summer break. As I type this I am sitting in my room at our family cabin waiting for the kids to wake up so we can go boating. It is going to be a beautiful day. Yesterday we put the boat in the water for the first time this season, and went out and had lunch on the boat. My oldest son, 7, decided he really wanted to swim, so we put him in his wet suit and he climbed into the water... the water which was 58 degrees by the way. But he loved it and had tons of fun and I took lots of pictures, because that's what I do! I made a delicious and beatiful dinner for everyone and then we went out for ice cream. It was a GREAT day!

I am so lucky! I have the most generous and amazing in laws, and today my Father in Law did something very kind for our family. So... I made him this thank you card. It's a pretty simple card. Used some paper from My Minds Eye, and a piece of cardstock I picked up last year at costco. I cut the cardstock with my Cricut, and embossed it with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. Added a little ink, a little sanding, some ribbon and stitching and I had a nice card to send to my Father in Law.

The last of the stuff for Tina and her Lia Sophia business.

I had to modify the tags I had made the day before because I hadn't put the incentive information on it. Here it a completed tag.Then I made her 6 OCD boxes with insert gift cards for hostesses. When they book a class they get to open the box and then select an incentive from the list. I love to make these boxes and think they turned out really cute.
The last thing I had to make was a face to put on a gift bag for her 'Chocolate Game' she plays with the party guests. I have a few unused paint cans from when I taught my altered paint can class last November, so I thought I would just make her a can quickly instead of the face for the Bag. The can will last better anyway. :D

I have been super busy! Last night was 'Scrapbook Night' at my house and I made such a yummy dinner, and I wish I had taken a picture of it. It was photo-worthy. Oh well.

I also am making a DVD for my son's school. It's the end of year DVD of all the kids throughout the year. It's a lot of fun but has kept me fairly busy.

Lastly, I have an order to fill for Tina. She is a rep for Lia Sophia Jewelry. These are the tags I have made for her to put on her incentive rewards for booking a party. It's a little hard to tell but they are both about 5.5" tall. I cut them with my cricut and then had a ball decorating them up. I hope she likes them.

Mother's Day Card #1

I didn't post my Mother's Day cards, because I didn't want my moms to see them before Mothers Day.

Here's card #1 - I used my Cricut to cut out the bracket and letters using the Stamped Cartridge, but I modified the 'M's with good old scissors. I bought this stamp at Michaels and I just love it! So I thought I would make a card to add to my cards I am making for my boys' teachers. It's a great 'just because card'. Anyway, paper is from We R Memory Keepers, ribbon is from Michaels and the flowers are primas. I stitched around the edge and did quite a bit of distressing with ink and sandpaper. The scallopped heart was cut using my cricut, but instead of using the heart I cut out, I used the remaining paper that it was cut from.

Another Must Have Tool

I am addicted to distressing. I can't stop. It just seems like everything looks a little better after it has been distressed. I distress lots of different ways, but one of my favorite and quickest ways to distress something is to sand it. This little beauty comes from Home Depot or Lowes but I am sure you can find them at any hardware/ building store. It's a sanding sponge from 3M. LOVE IT!

My sister had to have surgery on her arm, basically they had to shorten her ulna to correct an injury from a car accident. So this is the card I made for her.

The tag is chipboard and was made with my sizzix. The scalloped circle was made with my cricut, as was the circle inside it, which is also chipboard. The 'u' is chipboard and was made with my sizzix also. The ribbons came from Michaels, and the brad is from Making Memories. Papers come from My Mind's Eye - Magnolia (I love these papers and they had them for sale in a lovely stack at Costco! Yipee!)

I did lots of distressing with ink and sandpaper also.

The sentiment was done by making my own rub on.

I hope it lifts her spirits a bit.

Tools I Love..

I have had a few people ask me about what tools I love to use and can't live without. Clearly, my Cricut is #1, but I decided to spotlight another favorite of mine.

The Crop-O-Dile. This little bad boy is amazing! It's a hole punch and eyelet setter. It will cut through chipboard, leather, just about anything (silently I might add). Plus you can set how deep into your paper you want the hole set so that if you are punching multiple holes they are all even. If you scrapbook or make cards, this tool is a must have. If you have one and you don't use it, get it out and try it! I bet you will like it.

Cambria's grandmother recently had heart surgery. This is the card I made for her.

I have had a bit of 'Scrappers Block' and this card just kind of happened. It's fairly simple, but I really liked how it turned out. Paper is from My Mind's Eye, ribbon I just had lying around and the charm I had picked up at Joanns a while ago. The sentiment is a stamp. I distressed the edges with 'Vintage Photo' ink, sanded a little bit, then stitched to add some more dimension. I hope she likes this card and that it lifts her spirits!

Another Teacher Appreciation Week Box

Wow, first of all this box looks much less plain when you see it for real. Wow.

Ok, this is another box to hold a gift card for my son's first grade teacher. (I just didn't have any idea what to get her!) So it is made with cardstock from My Mind's Eye, and a flower from Prima. The brad in the center is from Making Memories. I did the sentiment on my computer and cut it out with a large circle punch. I added some stitching around the circle and on the box to give it some texture and tied it with some ribbon. The back of the box has some more ribbon on it too.

Mother's Day is coming...

Here is the top and front of the exploding box I made for my Mother in Law for Mother's Day. I will post pictures of the inside as soon as I get it finished. The cardstock is Bazzill Basics, as is the flower. The brad is from Making Memories and I made the M with my cricut. The tag is from my sizzix. The jump rings are also from Making Memories. I picked up the paper and ribbon from a great local store named 'Paper Creations'. It's my favorite scrapbook store. I love the owner and they have an amazing selection. Super Busy

I have been super busy lately. But my plans are tonight to make a couple cards and get them posted.

I did, however have a split second to pop into Michaels and look at Martha Stewart's line of scrapbooking and paper products... and let me just say. YUCK. I really had much higher hopes. Her paper is thin and cheap feeling not to mention I don't care at all for any of the patterns I saw. Then there is the whole issue of the 18x18" scrapbook. That's just INSANE. So, needless to say I was disappointed in what I saw. I really expected better.

My Hubby is the best!

Cricut announced a new machine this last winter, the Cricut Expression. I got the chance to see it at Scrapbook USA, and at that point I had decided I could live without it. I was wrong.

So today I asked the hubby if I could go ahead and pre-order it and it would be my Mother's Day gift. He didn't even hesitate. But I believe his actual statement was, "Sure, I know tht you will just go get it anyway and it will save me the headache and stress of trying to get you something."

I'm just fine with that.

Expression, here I come! YAY! I will be pre-ordering it from Kim S. She is fabulous and sells cricut stuff at a discount. And, since she is an authorized Cricut dealer everything comes with a full warranty, whereas using ebay sellers doesn't.

YAY!

Teacher Appreciation Week

This week has been CRAZY for me.

Next week is teacher appreciation week and in the teacher's lounge we, (we being the PTA) are setting up a jar with M&M's in it. Whichever teacher guesses the closest will receive a $35 gift card to Office Max, and of course the jar of candy. Well, having the OCD that I have, I felt that we needed a cute box to put the gift card in, and that would also making harder to lose the gift card. I had this box already made, I just cut out an apple with my cricut, distressed it, and tied a ribbon around it. The gift card stands up inside the box.

Exploding Box for my Sister in Law

I have been asked to teach a class for my church on the 'Exploding Box". So, here is the box I made for my Sister in Law which is being used for my example box.

I used a Prima Flower for the topper, and made the tag with my Making Memories Tag Maker.

The distressing was done with 'Walnut Stain' distressing ink, and sanding.

A Card for Abby

Today is a big day for my 8 year old Niece. She is in Children's Dance Theatre and today is her first performance as a member of CDT. So, I made this card for her. The paper is from Making Memories, and the cardstock base is Bazzill. The photo corner and frame corner were cut with my Cricut. The flower is a Prima, and then I embellished it with some ribbon and a button. The gem on the photo corner (which is actually purple) is a brad from Making Memories. Everything is distressed with 'Vintage Photo' ink and sanded. I stitched with brown thread (and for some reason my sewing machine is not my friend today... I will have to fix it later). The sentiment is from a stamp I picked up this morning.

I dropped this card off to her with a nice flower arrangement, and she was very excited!

Wedding Card

Today is Danielle's Wedding. Her wedding colors are Lime Green and Navy Blue, so I wanted to make her card in her colors. Here's what I made for her. I cut the hearts with a cuttlebug die. The lace came from Making memories as did the washers that say "Enjoy" and "Happiness". Everything has been distressed with ink and sanding. The bottom is a home made rub on that says "Best wishes as you begin your new life together."

I hope they like it, and I hope they have a wonderful wedding day and life!

Card Exchange

I signed up for a card exchange. I have to make 10 cards, mail them in and I will get back one of each person's home made card. I am really excited for this, and think it will be fun. (I know, I need therapy... well MORE therapy...) Anyway, this is the card I am making. I hope everyone likes it. I used paper from Making Memories and the brad in the center of the flower is also from Making Memories. (YAY for the BIG sale!). The flower is from a flower bunch I bought at Michaels and dissected. I distressed everything with 'Old Paper' ink, and stamped the sentiment from an old D.O.T.S. stamp. The ribbon I think came from Michaels. And of course, I stitched on it, since that is my latest craze.

My OCD Box

This is my little OCD box. For christmas one year my mother gave me a gift card to Sur La Table (I LOVE to cook). And it came in a little box that I became slightly (ok, more than slightly) obsessed with. I dissected it and taught myself how to make them. This is the front of the last one I made and decorated.
This is the back of it. I cut out the heart and tag with my Cricut. The eyelet came from Making memories, as did the papers.
This is the insert card. I love this box because you can put a card in it and it stands up nicely in the box folds. They are great for gift cards and invitations, and thank you notes with little gifts or treats.

Oh Baby!

My neighbor is pregnant with her first son, so I thought I would make her a baby card. Here's the card I made. The paper is from Die Cuts with a View Spring Stack, and I distressed it all with ink and stitched it together at the top. I thought after I made it, that it needed something else so I added the brads from Queen and Co. The tag and letters were all made with my Cricut.

Get Well Card

I had this green cardstock and was trying to think of something to make with it, then I saw this cute apple on one of my Cricut cartridges. So here it is. The inside says "Hope you feel better soon!". I layered the background papers and added some ribbon and stitching. Lots of distressing with ink. The tag I printed out on my computer.

I have been so busy lately I haven't made any new cards. Tomorrow is a bridal shower for my ex-neighbor so I made this one for her. The inside says congratulations. It's a 4x6 card that I distressed with ink, then stitched on ribbon and another piece of the same paper but the reverse side up. I made a home made rub on for the sentiment and used a Prima Flower with a brad from making memories. I hope Dani likes her card and her gift tomorrow.

My friend has been asking me to make her a card, and so I did. I just couldn't post it until I had actually given her the card I had made for her.

This is it.

I used my Cricut to cut out the photo corner and the tag that says 'Friendship Blooms'. The actual sentiment was a home made rub on. The picture hangers are from Daisy D's, and the flower is from Making memories.

There's quite a bit of distressing and a little stitching on it. I am loving stitching layers of paper together!

I hope she liked this card, I thought it turned out cute and springy!

The Missing Birthday Card

This is the card that I had made and misplaced. It was cleverly hiding next to my computer disguised to look like a birthday card.

This card is 6x6 and has quite a bit of distressing on it. I stitched on the yellow polka dotted paper to the brown paisley cardstock, and then stitched on the blue ribbon. The flower is made from cutting out petal shaped tags with my Cricut. Then I made loops on top of the petals with ribbon to give it some more texture and dimension. Topped that off with some circles cut again with the Cricut, a swirl eyelet on top of that with a little ribbon. The sentiment is a home made rub on.

What I did yesterday

Yesterday was spent making 90 of these little babies. Wow. I printed out the white card on top using the 'Entebbe' font (I love that font right now), then cut them, rounded just the bottom corners and distressed the edges with 'Old Paper' distressing ink. Danielle's colors for her wedding are Lime Green and Navy blue, and on such short notice this was the closest thing I could find to her colors. So the next layer is a piece of chatterbox paper stitched to the white printed cardstock. I then glued that to a piece of solid navy blue cardstock, punched a hole with my handy Crop-A-Dile (Thanks Dawn) and ran some ribbon through it. I wanted to add a flower to it, but prima's are pretty darn pricey for something that is probably going to be just thrown out so I went to Michaels and bought a little flower bunch and trimmed them all off the stems and adhered them with Zots. I hope she likes these.

Losing a card sucks....

Last month I made a Birthday Card... and when I needed it... it was gone. I looked high, I looked low... and I couldn't find it. So, I had 15 minutes to whip up a replacement card and this is what I did. I printed out the sentiment and cut it with a paper punch, then inked the edges. I stitched a little paper together, added a ribbon and a brad from Queen and Co and I had a birthday card.

Phew.

I am surrounded by boys. I have two boys, and between my sibling I have 9 nephews and only 4 nieces (on my side of the family), so when I get to make cards for my nieces I get a little excited. For Alisa's card, I found an old Target Advertisement that I used to create the shape and color palette for her card. the brads are from Queen and Company, and the letters I cut out with my Sizzix, and layered the patterened paper on top of 5 cuts with black cardstock to make my own chipboard. I then put a glaze over the letters to make them look like they are shiny plastic. Added a little ribbon and some stitching, and printed out the Happy Birthday from the computer.

For Dani's Card I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder to texture the background, then used my Cricut to cut out the flowers and the tag. I sanded the edges of the flowers and inked the edges of the brown cardstock. I also sanded over the background paper after I embossed it to make the embossing pop a little bit more. I added some ribbon and some stitching, and finished it all off with some Stickles to give it a little 'bling'. I hope they liked them.

Birthday Card

Another monogram card. I really like these, they are easy to make and look really pretty when they are all done. Once again I used my Cricut to cut out the B, it's shadow, the photo holder, and the circle. The H is an eyelet from Making Memories as is the round eyelet in the circle. Everything is distressed and I am LOVING stitching on cards, as you can tell. Instead of making a tag this time, I just 'floated' the tag rim around the circle and placed the circle on a pop dot to give it some layers. I really liked how this one turned out.

Dawn's Exploding Box

So, my 'Sister', Dawn asked me to make her an exploding box last month. Now, I would climb mountains for Dawn, they'd be small ones, but I would climb them. :p So here is the box I made for Dawn. It's a little bigger than the first one I made, and I think I am happier with this larger size. The 'D' on top was cut with my Cricut, but I layered it about 6 times to make it seem like chipboard and then I distressed it. The tag is another tag made with my Making Memories Tag Maker.

Just Because

My Mother in Law went out of town the beginning of January, and as of today still has not returned. (Good for her! If I could run away for the worst part of winter I think I would too!) Anyway, I was thinking about her a lot last month and so I made this card for her. The 'B' and the little photo holder are both cut with the Cricut, and the tag I made with my Making Memories tag maker. I did quite a bit of distressing and a little stitching to give it some texture and added ribbon. The flower eyelet is also from Making Memories as is the paper.

So, tomorrow is my sweet neighbor Leslie's birthday, and she is SO TALENTED that I am very intimidated to make anything for her, but I also know that I have to MAKE the card I give her. So, here goes.

The Flower is Prima, and I made the tags. The first tag is a transparency sheet and cut with my sizzix. The second tag is chipboard, also cut with my sizzix. The paper is from Die Cuts with a View Spring Stack, and it was all stitched together and distressed. The color scanned in all funky on the tag, but that paper is the same color as the top stripe of the card base. Hope she likes it.

So, I was in a slump and decided to make a friendship card. This card was pretty simple and really doesn't need any explanation. It turned out a bit more masculine than I was hoping, but I still think it's ok. Not my best work, but it's not my worst either.

Birthday Card

So Cricut right now has a contest where you enter something you made using your Cricut, and if your project is selected you win a free cartridge.

So this was the first card I entered to try to win, and while I didn't win, this card did get mentioned in the weekly newsletter, so that made me happy. The only parts of this that aren't Cricut related are the corrugated paper in the back, the wire that I tied from the balloon to the hippo's tail, the ribbon, and the background polka dotted paper that I ripped and stitched. All the shapes were cut with the Cricut, and I inked them. The sentiment is once again, a home made rub on.

Baby Card

So, my neighbor came home from the hospital today after having a little girl. So, here is the card I made for her. The outside is very simple, I used Daisy D's picture hangers to tie the card together in the center. The card is 5x5. I layered two papers on cardstock and stitched them together, and inked the edges.

The inside has a tag cut with my Cricut layered with vellum and a home made rub on for the sentiment. The brad is from Making Memories.

Thanks So Very Much

My oldest son is 7, and one day as he was leaving school one of the School Secretaries gave him a small gift (since he had a particularly good day at school that day). This small action made him so very happy that I had to thank her. So, this is the card I made for her. I cut the 'T' and the tag with my ever-faithful Cricut. I then layered Papers and inked the edges of everything and sanded the paper to age it a bit. I added a ribbon and did some stitching. The sentiment is a home made rub on (I will explain those later, in another post). I make a lot of those rub ons, so I can have the sentiment I want, in the font and size I want without having to torture people with my horrid handwriting, or spend loads of money and time trying to find just the right stamp. (Although I have lots of stamps too, and I do love them).

The inside (Another home made rub on) said "One small act of kindness can make a huge difference, Thank you."

My First Exploding Box

So, for those who know me know that I love to make things with paper, especially cards and boxes, and that I also LOVE to cook. I have been taking cooking classes from the wonderful Marguerite Henderson. Well I saw this box and wanted to make one. So, since Marguerite was about to become a grandmother for the first time (Well, now she has 2 grandchildren since her daughter had beautiful twin girls) I thought I would make the box for her. I thought it turned out cute, and she was pleased (at least I think she was) when I gave it to her. I hope she enjoys it and fills it with pictures of her beautiful granddaughters.

Valentine's Day Card Class Part 2

This card I made at 4am the day I was going to show the cards to everyone at church. It is a result of pure insomnia. :p This was however, the most difficult card I did for this class. Although it is still pretty simple to make. I used patterned cardstock and inked the edges. Then I used my Cricut (another tool I LOVE) to cut out two hearts and two circle tags. I inked the edges of the shapes. Ran ribbon through them and on the heart added a ribbon charm from Making Memories. The sentiment is a stamp. Then I attempted to stitch around the card, but it seems that sewing at 4 am is not my best work. ;) There was another card, but the pictures I took of it were terrible. Someday I will see if I can remember to scan it in. As always, thanks for looking!

Valentine's Card Class

In January I was asked to teach a Valentine's Day card class for my church. Most of the ladies I would be teaching had never made a card before, so I had to keep it pretty simple. I also wanted to have a couple different styles of cards, a little something for everyone.

So this one is a very masculine card. The brads are from Queen and Co. (I love their brads.) The cardstock is all from Bazzill. I embossed the gray cardstock with a cuttlebug embossing folder, then stitched it on to give the card a little color. The inside had another gray piece stitched on so you could write a note. It was very simple, but still looked very nice.

This card uses a white cardstock, with two different patterned papers layered and then a simple ribbon to separate the papers. I then used another patterened paper that was from the same family of papers and a piece of vellum to make the tag with a Making Memories Tag maker. The tag paper is also embossed with a cuttlebug embossing folder. This was a really quick card also.

I used paper from th Die Cuts with a View Spring stack, and a Prima Flower. I cut the tag with my ever-faithful Cricut. Did a bit of inking and stitching to give it softer edges and texture. The eyelet is from Making Memories and then I added ribbon. The sentiment is from a CuttleBug embossing folder, then I inked it to make the sentement 'POP' a bit more.
